Andita Rahma, Jakarta – Chief of the Indonesia National Police (Polri) Gen. Tito Karnavian, said that the Police will bring the result of investigation of the May 21-22 riot to the National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM).
According to Tito, the investigation team formed by Polri will be working in parallel with the team from Komnas HAM. He added that the team will be monitored by the National Police Commission.
"The investigation team is led directly by the General Supervision Inspector and will [work] in parallel with Komnas HAM. Why? We don't want to be considered exclusive, trying to cover something internally, so Komnas HAM investigation team will work in parallel," Tito said in his office on Wednesday, June5, 2019.
Tito does not deny the possibility of coordinating with the Indonesian Ombudsman. Currently, Polri has established two teams tasked with investigating the incident. The first team is the Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim), which is tasked with uncovering the mastermind and the main donor of the movement, and to find out whether it was premeditated and coordinated.
Meanwhile, the second team is tasked with investigating the difference between the rioting mob on May 21 and May 22. Tito said that the team will also investigate the victims, which was suspected to be coming from the rioters, and the cause of death.
