Jakarta – The Jakarta Police's Anti-Bandit Squad arrested 186 suspects during Operation Cipta Kondusif, which was conducted from March 11 to 15 in Greater Jakarta.
"Fifty suspects from West Jakarta were arrested, 37 from South Jakarta, and 31 from North Jakarta," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said as quoted by tempo.co on Saturday.
He added that 18 suspects from South Tangerang in Banten, 12 from Depok in West Java, 10 from Central Jakarta, eight from Tangerang, six and four from Bekasi regency and Bekasi municipality, respectively, in West Java, were arrested by the Jakarta Police.
Two suspects were arrested at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Banten, Tangerang, and Tanjung Priok Airport in North Jakarta, respectively. Among the suspects, were an underage person and a woman, Argo said.
They were arrested for various crimes, including muggings, theft with violence and robbery.
The police also confiscated eight firearms, 42 sharp weapons, 59 two-wheeled vehicles, two four-wheeled vehicles, six laptops, 43 mobile phones and Rp 5,557,000 (US$383.24) in cash.
Operation Cipta Kondusif aimed to make the cities safer for the public ahead of the elections on April 17, Argo said. "We can assure the public that this operation will be conducted continuously," he said. (sau)
