West Papua National Committee (KNPB) Statement - June 12, 2012

Violent conflict in West Papua is not a new thing. A Half century, since Indonesia controlled the region, West Papua has been a killing field and the exploitation of natural resources. It's time for all parties, Indonesian Authority, and all of the countries in world and the United Nations to realize the root problem of West Papua and pressure a settlement process peacefully, democratically and final through a referendum.

The world must understand the root problems in West Papua, which led to a humanitarian crisis and massive exploitation, that the fundamental problems of indigenous people of West Papua is the desire for self-determination, whereas Indonesia is willing to control of territory and destroy the owner of this land.

The two wishes would never be kept together through a approach process within the framework of the Republic of Indonesia. If it enforced, human conflict and exploitation of natural resources will continue. That means that the state of Indonesia and the world knowingly allow and encourage the destruction of the indigenous of West Papua in order to control this land.

The people of West Papua have understood that, this is imposible that violent conflict under the colonizer authority to be resolved through colonizer low. How could the perpetrators to prosecute the perpetrators? And how could the authorities to recognize and stop its intentions? That's not possible, because the authorities will continue to justify by the power of the media and diplomacy, so that the world be deceived and cheated each other.

That from the beginning, before Indonesia controled this land, the indigenous West Papuans have pledged to decide their self determination. Right of self-determination that has been manipulated through the wrong implementation of the Act of Free Choice in 1969 and greatly injure the rights of the people in West Papua, even the standards and principles of the UN principle of law and human rights.

Right of self-determination did not occur, and the people of West Papua since then struggled to do it right back. Since then, thousands of people have become victims of the Indonesian military, thousands have been displaced out and still live in refugee camps.

Until now, in the open era, the West Papua in a peaceful, open and dignified demand the right to self-determination through peaceful demonstrations, but the Indonesian authorities with military power continues to capture, chase and kill the people and fighters of West Papua.

It is time the world to heard of West Papua, to see West Papua and to talk about West Papua. It is time the world to urge the United Nations to responsible for the disputed territory of West Papua that has not been completed under international law. It is time for the United Nations to held a referendum peacefuly, democratic and final for the justice, humanity and world peace.
