Mutia Yuantisya, Jakarta – Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa mentioned that the World Bank has apologized for the low projection of Indonesia's economic growth. The apology was conveyed during their recent meeting in the United States last week.

"Someone said that our growth was only 4.7 percent, it was the World Bank, right. When I met with them there, they apologized," Purbaya said at his office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

In the East Asia and Pacific Economic Update report for April 2026, the World Bank projected that Indonesia's economy would grow at 4.7 percent in 2026, down from the previous projection of 4.8 percent.

Purbaya stated that he did not ask the World Bank to change the projection. He actually wants to prove that the projection is incorrect.

Furthermore, Purbaya mentioned that he had directly conveyed to the World Bank representatives at the meeting that their estimation of Indonesia's growth was too low.

According to Purbaya, optimism about higher economic growth is based on the significant reforms the government has implemented. Improvements have been made in the Directorate General of Taxes, the Directorate General of Customs, and other ministries and institutions before the global turmoil occurred.
