Joniansyah, Jakarta – InJourney Airports, the operator of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, apologized on Tuesday after part of the roof at Boarding Lounge Gate 7 in Terminal 3 collapsed during heavy rain, in an incident that was widely circulated on social media.

"We apologize to the public, airport service users, airline passengers, and business partners for the inconvenience caused, particularly due to the disruption involving the roof at Boarding Lounge Gate 7 of Terminal 3," InJourney Airports Corporate Secretary Group Head Arie Ahsanurrohim said in a written statement on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

Earlier, a video showing a leak and partial ceiling collapse at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport went viral online. The footage, shared with captions saying the terminal roof gave way during heavy rain at Gate 7, showed water pouring through the ceiling before part of it collapsed.

Arie said the damage was caused by a high volume of rainwater that exceeded the capacity of the drainage pipes on Monday afternoon.

He added that the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had issued severe weather information between 01:47 PM and 01:50 PM Jakarta time.

At the time, airport authorities also received a wind shear warning for all runways, with wind speeds reaching up to 30 knots, as well as an aerodrome warning for thunderstorms and rain (TSRA) with winds ranging from 17 to 30 knots.

InJourney Airports said the disruption was handled in line with standard procedures while maintaining airport services, safety, and security.

"Repairs are being carried out in accordance with procedures for terminal infrastructure disruptions. The area has been secured to ensure safety and service continuity, especially at Boarding Gate 7 of Terminal 3," Arie said.

He said repairs to the damaged roof were expected to be completed as early as Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

"The work will be accelerated, and we expect repairs to the affected roof section to be completed by April 8, 2026," he said.

InJourney Airports said airport operations and services at Soekarno-Hatta were continuing normally despite the incident.

Earlier, Yudistiawan, assistant deputy for communication and legal affairs at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport branch office, confirmed the incident shown in the video.

"Yes," he told Tempo on Monday evening, April 6, 2026, when asked about the footage.

Yudistiawan said the disruption at the roof of the Boarding Lounge Gate 7 area occurred during heavy rainfall on Monday afternoon and lasted for about five minutes.

According to him, airport operations personnel responded immediately by cleaning the area and restricting access to the affected section so the situation could be brought under control quickly.

"The area has now been cleaned, conditions have returned to normal, and airport operations continue to run smoothly," he said.

He added that the damaged section of the roof was immediately isolated, drained, and tidied up, while repairs to the ceiling were also started right away.
