Erfan Maruf, Jakarta – The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has procured 25,000 electric motorbikes to support the nationwide rollout of its free nutritious meal program, its chief Dadan Hindayana confirmed on Tuesday.

The bulk purchase, made since December 2025, had not been publicly disclosed and drew attention after images and videos of rows of motorbikes bearing the BGN logo circulated widely on social media.

Speculation online suggested the agency had acquired as many as 70,000 units.

"The information about the purchase of 70,000 motorbikes is incorrect. The realized number is 21,801 units out of the 25,000 ordered in 2025," Dadan said in a statement.

He did not disclose the supplier, though circulating reports indicate the vehicles were produced by Emmo, an electric bike manufacturer established in 2021 and based in Bogor, West Java.

Dadan said the procurement was part of the 2025 budget plan and is intended to support operations of the government's free nutritious meal (MBG) program, particularly for regional nutrition service units responsible for preparing and distributing meals.

However, he confirmed that the motorbikes have not yet been distributed nationwide, as they must first undergo administrative processing and be recorded as state assets.

"The motorbikes have not yet been distributed. Once all requirements are completed, they will first be registered as state assets before distribution," he said.

The case echoes a previous controversy involving state-owned food company Agrinas, which reportedly imported 105,000 fully built pickup vehicles from India without prior disclosure to the House of Representatives.
