Agung Dharma Putra, Heru Andriyanto, Surabaya – The Indonesian Navy on Sunday officially commissioned a new warship, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, in a ceremony held in the waters off Surabaya, marking a further upgrade to the country's maritime defense capabilities.

The vessel is a multipurpose combat ship built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri SpA.

The commissioning ceremony took place at the Navy's Fleet Command II base. The warship had embarked on a long journey from Italy since February 11, 2026, making stops in Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, and Mauritius before arriving at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta on March 26 for handover to Fleet Command II.

Measuring 143 meters in length and equipped with advanced weapons and sensor systems, the vessel is designed for multi-role operations, including maritime security patrols, protection of strategic assets, as well as humanitarian and disaster response missions.

KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is the second ship of its class to join Fleet Command II, following the earlier induction of KRI Brawijaya-320, also built by Fincantieri, last year.

Both ships were originally constructed for the Italian Navy under the names Marcantonio Colonna and Ruggiero di Lauria before being acquired by Indonesia's Defense Ministry for 1.18 billion. They were subsequently renamed KRI Brawijaya-320 and KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 on January 29, 2025.

The addition of these modern vessels is expected to enhance the Indonesian Navy's operational readiness in maintaining national maritime security.

Commander of Fleet Command II, Rear Admiral I Gung Putu Alit Jaya, said the arrival of the technologically advanced ship provides renewed momentum for the Navy in addressing increasingly complex maritime security challenges.

He added that the vessel's futuristic design and integrated systems are expected to deliver a strong deterrent effect against potential threats in Indonesia's waters.
