Jayapura - The Papua Student Association (IMAPA) in the Greater Jakarta area (Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi) has called on the Supreme Audit Agency Republik Indonesia (BPK RI) to conduct an audit of budget use within the Papuan People's Assemblies (MRP) across the Land of Papua.
The demand was delivered during a peaceful protest held at the BPK RI office in Jakarta on Thursday (March 26, 2026). The demonstration was organized amid allegations of budget misuse and concerns over the MRP's weak performance in protecting the rights of Indigenous Papuans (OAP).
Chairperson of IMAPA Jadetabek, Akianus Wenda, stated that under Law No. 21 of 2001 on Special Autonomy for Papua, the MRP is a cultural representative body with a strategic role in safeguarding customary, religious, and women's rights, as well as channeling the aspirations of Papuan communities.
"However, in practice, IMAPA Jadetabek assesses that these functions have not been carried out optimally by MRPs across Papua," Wenda said in a written statement on Friday (March 27, 2026).
He added that various issues in Papua, including alleged lack of transparency in the use of tens of billions of rupiah in funds, have prompted students to demand a comprehensive and transparent audit.
"This protest is not merely about expressing aspirations, but a form of moral responsibility by students as a social control mechanism to ensure transparency, justice, and the welfare of Papuan society," he said.
Meanwhile, the protest's field coordinator, Pengge Penggu, stressed that students would continue to push their demands until concrete action is taken by BPK RI.
"If BPK does not promptly follow up on our demonstration today, we will mobilize larger numbers and escalate our actions in the future," Penggu said.
IMAPA Jadetabek expressed appreciation for BPK RI's response but emphasized that they would continue to monitor the process until a real audit is conducted and the results are made public.
The protest reflects the commitment of Papuan students to advocate for transparency and justice for a better future for Papuan communities.
During the demonstration, IMAPA representatives directly conveyed their demands to BPK RI officials, who accepted the aspirations and expressed a commitment to follow them up.
The key demands presented by IMAPA Jadetabek include, urging BPK RI to immediately conduct a comprehensive and transparent audit of MRP budgets across Papua.
Calling on BPK RI to publicly disclose audit results, including any potential state losses
Urging the Attorney General's Office and law enforcement agencies to follow up on audit findings and pursue legal action without discrimination
Demanding the removal of the Chair of the MRP Association across Papua for failing to carry out duties and responsibilities.
