Muhari said the evacuees are placed across eight shelters, from an elementary school building to nearby villages.
The Tegal Regency Government has declared a Disaster Emergency Response Status for the land movement phenomenon, which remains in effect until February 16, 2026.
The regent of Tegal, Ischak Maulana Rohman, said the active ground movement has affected hundreds of villagers' homes. "Since the land movement remains dynamic, we prioritize the safety of residents through monitoring and evacuation to safe locations," said Ischak in a statement on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Ischak mentioned that the Tegal Regency Government has declared a Disaster Emergency Response status for 14 days and activated a Command Post. During this period, the focus will be on fulfilling the basic needs of affected residents, including logistics, healthcare services, and the operation of a community kitchen with a capacity of about 1,050 servings per meal.
The Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, ensured that the disaster response in Tegal will also cover long-term recovery and the relocation of affected residents to proper and safe housing. Ahmad Luthfi instructed the swift preparation of temporary housing for the evacuees.
"We can't afford any unforeseen incidents," he said during an emergency coordination meeting with local government and relevant agencies at the Integrated Health Post in Padasari Village, Tegal Regency, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
"We can't just provide [immediate] aid and consider it done. All those in need of temporary or permanent housing must be assisted," he stated.
