Mutia Yuantisya, Jakarta – Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said tariff negotiations with the United States have been concluded and are awaiting the signing by President Prabowo Subianto and his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump.
"All negotiations have been completed, with legal drafting reaching 90 percent. We are now waiting for the signing schedule," Airlangga said at the Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
According to Airlangga, both the Indonesian and U.S. governments will report the agreement results to their respective parliaments. Washington will be heading for Congress, while the Indonesian government will report to the House of Representatives.
The reciprocal tariff talks between Indonesia and the United States have been ongoing since April 2025. Previously, both countries agreed to intensify negotiations within three weeks to ensure the best outcomes for both parties.
An agreement to expedite the negotiations was reached after the Indonesian delegation led by Airlangga met with the U.S. Secretary of Trade Howard Lutnick and the United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. The meeting was part of the efforts to strengthen the trade cooperation between Indonesia and the United States.
Following the announcement by Trump on July 7, 2025, the Indonesian delegation was among the first parties received by Washington to discuss trade ties between the two countries, including U.S. tariffs, non-tariff barriers, digital economy, economic security, as well as commercial cooperation and investment.
Both countries also discussed the potential for cooperation in critical mineral sectors. The United States expressed interest in strengthening partnerships in the strategic mineral sector, while Indonesia eyed processing cooperation for its reserves of nickel, copper, and cobalt.
The Indonesian government stated that it will continue the negotiation process with the United States based on mutual benefit principles, with the aim of ensuring real economic advantages for both countries.
