Putri Maharani Kristiana, Jakarta – Foreign Minister Sugiono highlighted ten of Indonesia's recent successes in international diplomacy, including its election as President of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for 2026.

He announced these achievements during the Annual Press Statement of the Foreign Minister (PPTM) 2026 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Sugiono noted that, amid increasingly complex, competitive, and unpredictable global dynamics, multilateralism remains a strategically vital tool for Indonesia to expand its national influence and strengthen resilience.

"This is not only about numbers or our confidence in multilateral principles themselves," he said, emphasizing the broader strategic value of Indonesia's active engagement on the global stage.

The official election of Indonesia as President of the UNHRC was confirmed during the council's first organizational meeting of 2026 in Geneva on January 8.

Beyond the UNHRC role, Indonesia will also serve as a member of the UN Board of Auditors for the 2026-2032 period, represented by the Indonesian Audit Board (BPK).

Sugiono stressed that national resilience in today's interconnected world is built through networks, not isolation. He described Indonesia's active participation in multilateral forums as part of a "network-based resilience" strategy, rather than aligning with any particular side in global politics.

He added that Indonesia will maintain its consistent presence across key international platforms, including the United Nations, G20, BRICS, APEC, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and various technical forums, reinforcing the country's commitment to multilateral engagement.
