Dani Aswara, Jakarta – The Indonesian Army (TNI) has confirmed an incident involving an attack on the soldiers of the Combat Engineer Battalion 6 of the Division Unit during a training session in Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan, on Sunday, December 14, 2025. The incident involved 15 foreign nationals from Beijing, China.

Head of Information of the XII/Tanjungpura Regional Military Command, Infantry Colonel Yusub Dody Sandra, stated that the attack occurred around 3:40 PM in the area owned by PT SRM. "An attack on four TNI soldiers conducting unit training did take place," he said in a written statement on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

The incident began when the Zipur 6/SD soldiers received a report from the security personnel of PT SRM regarding a drone flying near the training area. The soldiers then conducted a search to find the operator of the drone. At the location, they found four foreign nationals from Beijing operating the unmanned aircraft.

According to Taufik, the four foreign nationals were questioned. However, the situation changed when 11 other foreign nationals suddenly appeared and attacked the TNI soldiers. The perpetrators were suspected to have used bladed weapons such as machetes, airsoft guns, and one electric shock device.

Facing an uneven situation, the TNI soldiers chose to avoid escalating the conflict. They moved back to the company's area to secure the situation and report the incident to their unit leaders.

Kapendam mentioned that the motive for the attack and the purpose of the drone flight around the training location are still being investigated by the authorities. The TNI have not disclosed the status of the presence of the foreign nationals, including their permission to engage in activities in the company's area.

As a result of the attack, the recorded losses were material in nature. One Toyota Hilux company car was severely damaged, and one Honda Vario motorcycle belonging to an employee of PT SRM was damaged. "There were no casualties or injuries from the TNI side," he said.

The XII/Tanjungpura Regional Military Command stated that they would coordinate with relevant agencies to further investigate the incident, including the security aspect of the area and the activities of foreign nationals around the military training location.
