Muhammad Farhan, Jakarta – Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman Anindya Bakrie voiced business leaders' expectations for newly appointed Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, stressing the need to protect economic stability.
"With stability, growth will follow. Let's give him time to settle in, analyze the situation, and carry out his duties," Anindya said.
Anindya emphasized that the business community expects the Finance Ministry, together with the government, to keep supporting growth. "We fully support government programs so that the economy can rebound," he added.
Indonesia's economy expanded by 5.12 percent in the second quarter, which Anindya described as a sign of improvement. Still, he highlighted the need to strengthen government spending. "Public spending is being ramped up in the second half of the year. We hope the Finance Ministry can maintain the right balance," he said.
He also underscored the importance of boosting domestic consumption, noting that spending in regional areas has begun to pick up. "Perhaps efficiency measures are easing, which allows economic activity to grow. We are also encouraging regional chambers to align with government programs," Anindya said.
For his part, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa assured that he would not overhaul existing financial systems but instead focus on maximizing what is already in place.
"Usually, when a new leader comes in, they like to dismantle the old system and build new milestones. I will not take that approach. We will optimize the system we have," Purbaya told reporters at a press conference in Jakarta.
