Hendrik Yaputra, Jakarta – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka stated that the development of Indonesia's Nusantara Capital City (IKN) continues during President Prabowo Subianto's administration. For him, the IKN represents a symbol of balanced development.

"IKN is not just about building a palace, but a symbol of balanced development that is no longer centralized in Java," he said during a speech at the 45th Pangalangok Jilah Anniversary in Keramat Patih Patinggi, Toho District, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan, on Saturday, July 23, 2025, cited from the official statement of the Vice President's Secretariat.

The eldest son of former President Jokowi admitted to visiting the IKN last month. He said the construction is progressing as planned, including the development of the judicial and legislative areas, which will soon be worked on.

This former politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) urged the public not to believe information about the development of the IKN too easily. He requested that news that is unclear in its accuracy be confirmed first with relevant parties, such as religious and traditional leaders.

"So as not to be incited by false news," he said.

In addition, Gibran discussed several ongoing educational programs conducted by the government, including the People's School (Sekolah Rakyat). He mentioned that the People's School is a boarding school. In this school, children eat three times a day and receive school uniforms.

The August 10, 2025, edition of Tempo magazine reported that President Prabowo Subianto is no longer focused on developing the IKN. Three palace officials and the Red and White cabinet stated that Prabowo prioritizes other programs, such as the free nutritious meal program and the Red and White Cooperative. Prabowo's reluctance to speed up the implementation of the IKN is evident in the meetings that have been held.

During his tenure, Prabowo only held meetings to discuss the new capital city on January 21, 2025, and February 3, 2025.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said that once the infrastructure is ready, Prabowo will issue a presidential decision on the relocation of the capital city. Prasetyo conveyed this on Friday, July 25, 2025.
