Agnes Valentina Christa, Jakarta – Indonesia's 80th Independence Day celebration will take place in Jakarta this year, not at the new presidential palace in the future capital city of Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan, a senior official confirmed on Wednesday.

Hasan Nasbi, head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), said the government has decided to hold the August 17 ceremony in Jakarta, with preparations already underway.

"The Independence Day celebration will be held in Jakarta," Hasan told reporters.

Hasan also announced that the logo and theme for the 80th Independence Day would be launched soon by President Prabowo Subianto.

Despite the main event being moved to Jakarta, the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) will still hold an internal flag-raising ceremony in IKN to commemorate Indonesia's independence. As part of the celebrations, sports competitions and community activities have already started at the IKN PSSI Football Field.

Last year, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and First Lady Iriana led the 79th Independence Day ceremony in Nusantara, wearing traditional Kutai attire to showcase Indonesia's cultural heritage. The ceremony was held in two locations, with President-elect Prabowo Subianto joining Jokowi in Nusantara, while Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka participated in the Jakarta ceremony.
