Annisa Febiola, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic that Indonesia can achieve 100 percent renewable energy in the next 10 years. He is also confident that 100 percent renewable energy can be achieved sooner than the initial projection of 2040.
This was conveyed by Prabowo in a joint statement with Brazilian President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Planalto Palace, Brasilia. "The target is of course 2040, but my experts say that we can achieve it much sooner," he said, as quoted from the official statement.
During the meeting, the Head of State emphasized his commitment to accelerate cooperation between Indonesia and Brazil, especially in the agricultural sector, clean energy, and defense. According to Prabowo, Brazil sets a good example in the use of biofuels and innovation in the agricultural sector, so he wants to learn from them.
He stated that the Brazilian government welcomed Indonesia's plan to send more technical teams to study technology and modernization in the agricultural sector and the development of renewable energy. "Again, we see Brazil's success in developing biofuels. I think we are determined to pursue the progress that Brazil has achieved," said Prabowo.
He explained that food resilience and self-sufficiency are important for Indonesia. According to Prabowo, Indonesia considers Brazil's program as an inspirational model in supporting food resilience and meeting children's nutritional needs.
Regarding the Free Nutritious Meal program for children and pregnant women currently being implemented in Indonesia, Prabowo stated that this ambitious program is still ongoing. "We are currently implementing the ambitious Free Nutritious Meal program for children and pregnant women in Indonesia, and our target is 82.9 million portions per day by December 2025," he said.
Prabowo added that bilateral cooperation will also be expanded through the role of the Indonesian State-Owned Enterprises Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara), and the implementation of the Indonesia-Brazil Defense Cooperation Agreement.
Prabowo also expressed his desire to continue cooperation through joint production and technology transfer. "We also want to enhance joint military personnel training and collaborate on missile and submarine technology," he said.
