Yogi Eka Sahputra, Batam – PT Freeport Indonesia (FI) is now supplying raw materials to PT Solder Tin Andalan Indonesia (STANIA), a solder manufacturing company owned by Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo, the younger brother of President Prabowo Subianto. The factory was inaugurated on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in Batam City, Riau Islands Province.

STANIA receives hundreds of tons of raw materials directly from Freeport's smelter facility in Gresik, East Java.

Freeport Indonesia CEO Tony Wenas said STANIA manufactures solder, which requires raw materials such as silver and lead.

"And we, as FI, also produce silver and there's also lead, so those are the ones we supply to Stania," Tony said at the inauguration event.

He explained that Freeport is currently supplying about 10 tons of silver and 250 tons of lead per year to STANIA.

"But earlier, Mr. Hashim said that this is just one line. Of course, the demand will increase later on. This is just the beginning," he added.

Tony noted that the value of these materials depends on global market prices. As an example, he cited the current price of silver at around 30 dollars per ton.

"But this is not about value. The most important thing is that previously we had doubts whether the domestic industry could absorb the smelter products produced in Indonesia. But it turns out the demand exists, and we must continue to promote it," he said.

He expressed hope that not only STANIA, but other industries as well, would utilize copper, gold, and silver products domestically.

"So that the downstream ecosystem related to advanced electrical ecosystem products can be achieved," he said.

Tony further explained that the materials sent to Batam originate from Freeport's mining operations in Papua. The materials are processed at the smelter in Gresik before being shipped to Batam.

"The raw materials are from Papua, then brought to the smelter in Gresik, and then here (Batam City). The journey from Gresik to Batam by sea only takes a few days," he said.

STANIA occupies a 6,500-square-meter facility. Construction began with the first stone laying on May 10, 2024, and the factory officially commenced operations on July 10, 2025. The initial production target is 2,000 tons of solder annually.

In the future, STANIA plans to expand its product lines to include solder wire, solder powder, and solder paste, with a total capacity of up to 16,000 tons per year. The company is targeting Rp1 trillion in annual revenue.
