OJK reports Rp 2.6tn lost to financial scams, over 200,000 accounts involved

Anastasya Lavenia Y, Jakarta – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) reported that financial transaction scams have caused total losses of Rp2.6 trillion, based on complaints submitted to the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC) between November 2024 and May 23, 2025.

Hasan Fawzi, Executive Head of the Supervision of Financial Sector Technology Innovation, Digital Financial Assets, and Crypto Assets at OJK, stated that funds blocked in connection with these cases amounted to Rp163 billion.

"The reported number of accounts is 208,333, and the number of accounts that have been blocked is 47,891," Hasan said in a virtual press briefing on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Over the reporting period, the IASC received 128,281 scam reports. Of these, 85,120 were submitted via financial sector institutions, while 43,161 were sent directly to the IASC system.

Hasan also noted that from January 1 to May 23, 2025, OJK, through the Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities (PASTI), identified and shut down 1,123 illegal online lending operations and 209 fraudulent investment offers found across various websites and apps.

"PASTI has proposed the blocking of 2,442 contact numbers of illegal loan debt collectors to the Ministry of Communication and Digital," he said.

During the same period, OJK issued 63 written warnings to 56 financial service providers and imposed 23 financial penalties on 22 businesses. In the banking sector, two administrative warnings and two fines were levied for breaches of consumer protection rules, particularly involving misleading advertisements.
