Ervana Trikarinaputri, Jakarta – The Institute for Economic and Social Research, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (LPEM FEB UI) surveyed economists to assess the first 100 days of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka's administration.
The survey results indicate that most economic experts perceive domestic economic conditions as worse than they were three months ago.
Sample consisted of 42 economists from various backgrounds, including higher education institutions, research institutions, think tanks, the private sector, and multinational organizations.
Respondents also came from various regions in Indonesia and abroad to represent domestic and international perspectives.
A total of 55 percent, or 23 out of 42 respondents, agreed that the current economic situation is deteriorating. "In fact, seven experts believe the situation is much worse," wrote LPEM UI in the report 'LPEM Economic Experts Survey Semester I 2025' released on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
Meanwhile, 11 experts believe the situation is stagnant. Only one expert believes it is better than before.
The expected economic growth in the next period also appears to be pessimistic. "With the majority of experts (23 out of 42) predicting lower economic growth from the current figure, although no participants believe that the contraction will be much stronger," the report stated.
Meanwhile, more than a quarter of the sample predicts insignificant changes, while a minority of 6 experts predict economic growth in the next period.
The dozens of economists also assessed the fiscal and monetary policies of the Prabowo-Gibran administration. The majority of experts believe that the current fiscal policies are not effective in maintaining economic stability and driving growth.
Twenty-eight percent, or 12 out of 42 respondents, believe that the fiscal policy is highly ineffective, while 60 percent, or 25 out of 42 experts, believe it is slightly ineffective. "This indicates the need for policy improvements to enhance effectiveness," said LPEM UI.
Most experts, 38 percent or 16 out of 42 respondents, view the Prabowo government's monetary policies as having no effect. Around 13 respondents, or 13 percent, consider the monetary policy to be slightly ineffective.
Furthermore, the survey results show doubt about the economic policies of Prabowo-Gibran. "The new government's economic policies in its first 100 days are widely considered ineffective," the report stated.
Out of 42 respondents, 36 people regard these economic policies negatively. Specifically, 21 respondents believe the policies are ineffective, 15 believe they are highly ineffective. Only 2 people see slight effectiveness, and 4 people remain neutral.
No respondents consider the policies very effective. According to LPEM UI, this reflects widespread skepticism.
