Alif Ilham Fajriadi, Jakarta – The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, together with the Papua Regional Police, arrested former TNI (Indonesian Military) soldier Yuni Enumbi (YE) while smuggling weapons and ammunition for the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB-OPM).

According to YE's confession to the authorities, he obtained the weapons from outside Papua at a cost of around Rp1.3 billion.

Referring to the data obtained from the Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force, it is mentioned that YE was to deliver the firearms and ammunition to Puncak Jaya, Central Papua. Authorities had been monitoring YE's movements since early March 2025.

YE was arrested at Kilometer 76, Keerom Regency, Papua. At that time, he was accompanied by two individuals with the initials YK as the van driver transporting the goods, and MP as the assistant. The authorities confiscated two unassembled long-barreled firearms, four G2 Pindad pistols, an air rifle, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition ranging from 5.56 to 9 millimeters.

The Head of the Cartenz 2025 Peace Operation Task Force Public Relations, Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, stated that they would continue to trace the origin of the weapons. He also affirmed that anyone involved in this smuggling case would be prosecuted. "This is not the end, but the beginning of further investigation," said Yusuf in his official statement on Saturday, March 8, 2026.

The Spokesperson for the West Papua National Liberation Army or TPNPB-OPM, Sebby Sambom, admitted that the long-barreled weapons seized by the Indonesian police were intended for their armament. "The seizure of the two long-barreled weapons and four pistols along with hundreds of ammunition is indeed owned by the TPNPB forces in Puncak Jaya," said Sebby in a written statement received by Tempo on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

The Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Rudolf Renwarin stated that YE obtained the firearms from Surabaya with a transaction value of Rp1.3 billion. He mentioned that YE had been dismissed as a TNI soldier since 2022 due to a smuggling case of firearms for the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).

"We are still investigating and mobilizing a team in Java Island to trace the source of these firearms," said Patrige. As a result of YE's actions, the police charged him with Article 500 of the Indonesian Criminal Code regarding unauthorized possession of firearms. The penalty for this offense is imprisonment or a fine.
