Riri Rahayu, Jakarta – The Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority and the Ministry of Public Works will review the design of legislative and judicial office buildings in the new capital city project. IKN Authority Spokesperson Troy Pantouw said the review is based on President Prabowo Subianto's inputs.
"[The review] has nothing to do with the budget. Absolutely not," Troy told Tempo on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Troy said the Ministry of Public Works will lead the design team in executing the president's directives. IKN Authority head Basuki Hadimuljono first revealed Prabowo's instruction to review the buildings' design after a meeting at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo has yet to comment on the timeline set for the formation of the design team and when it starts working. The minister merely said the team would work to achieve Prabowo's vision and mission. "Whether we will do major or minor reviews will hinge on further discussions," said Dody when met on Wednesday, January 22.
Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti said that design adjustments for the legislative and judicial office buildings in IKN were reasonable due to possible differences in taste between President Prabowo and former President Joko Widodo.
"It's possible for them to have different tastes, but it's likely that some of [Prabowo's] wishes haven't been reflected in the current designs," she said, referring to the design adjustments.
IKN to become political capital city
Prabowo Subianto targets IKN to become Indonesia's political capital city by 2028 and is planning to move his office to the new capital in the same year. Hence, IKN head Basuki said completing the construction of the legislative, judicial office buildings and other supporting facilities is a top priority.
The construction of a number of infrastructures will be included in the second phase of IKN development from 2025 to 2029. The government has allotted a budget of Rp48.8 trillion from the State Budget.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono admitted that the new capital project will proceed with several adjustments, since Prabowo's administration has other development priorities spread throughout Indonesia.
"We are also faced with a limited budget," he said on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
