Jakarta – The Operation Cartenz Peace managed to arrest Oni Enumbi of the armed criminal group (KKB) operating in Puncak Jaya, Central Papua, on Wednesday, at about 11:15 a.m. local time in front of the Puncak Jaya Police Station.
Operation Cartenz Peace head Brig. Gen. Faizal Ramadhani confirmed that Oni was a member of the KKB that is led by Ternus Enumbi.
His arrest was based on a wanted list issued on April 25, as well as a police report, related to the fatal attack on the Elang Task Force personnel in Kulirik village, Muara district, Puncak Jaya.
Oni is currently being held at the Operation Cartenz Peace headquarters in Puncak Jaya administrative seat, Mulia. Authorities are questioning him to determine his possible involvement in other KKB-related criminal activities in the region.
"The investigative team is conducting intensive questioning to further explore his involvement in various criminal acts committed in Puncak Jaya Regency," Faizal said, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Oni's arrest comes amid a surge in violent incidents carried out by KKB groups in Central Papua. On Nov. 22, the KKB set fire to a junior high school building in Gigobak village, Sinak district, Puncak regency, at around 2:30 a.m. local time.
On Nov. 21, another KKB member shot two motorcycle taxi drivers in Weni village, Mageabume district, Puncak regency, at about 1 p.m. local time. The victims were identified as Imran and Asrun Eko Putra who come from South Sulawesi.
"Operation Cartenz Peace, along with the joint Indonesian Military and National Police forces in Sinak District, Puncak regency, are in pursuit of the KKB and are enhancing preparedness to prevent additional attacks," Faizal said, as quoted by metrotvnews.com.
