Alfitria Nefi P, Jakarta – The Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) said hundreds of polling stations in the region are located in flood-prone areas.
"As many as 572 polling stations are located in potential flood-prone areas," said the head of KPU Jakarta's Data and Information Division, Fahmi Zikrillah, to the media on Monday, November 25, 2024.
Fahmi did not specify which areas or polling stations are prone to flooding, but he said the data was obtained through coordination with the district-level KPUs in Jakarta.
The KPU Jakarta, working with the Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), has prepared mitigation measures for polling stations at risk of flooding.
"We have reported the data of 572 flood-prone polling stations to BPBD for mitigation," he said.
Jakarta KPU Commissioner Astri Megatari has urged the polling station committees, or PPS, and BPBD, to find higher and safer locations to establish polling stations. The voting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
"So the voting process is unhindered by flooding," she told the media crew.
In addition to preparing alternative locations, KPU hopes BPBD can assist with providing rubber boats to help voters reach the polling stations.
The weather forecast issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) indicates that Jakarta and its surrounding areas will be cloudy with a chance of light rain on election day.
