Alfitria Nefi P, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto declared his support for Palestinian independence when delivering his inaugural speech after being sworn in at the Plenary Session of the People's Consultative Assembly at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
"We support the independence of the Palestinian people," said Prabowo.
This desire was expressed by Prabowo after delivering his speech about his wish to be friends with all countries and to have an anti-colonial principle. Prabowo stated that the Indonesian people had also experienced colonization and oppression.
"Therefore, we have a principle, we must stand in solidarity, we must defend the oppressed people in this world," he said.
Regarding his support for Palestine, Prabowo stated that he is ready to provide assistance in the form of hospitals and also evacuate the victims. "We are ready to evacuate the injured and traumatized children and victims," said the former Defense Minister.
Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka officially assumed the positions as the eighth President of Indonesia after reciting the oath of office for the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 period and signing the minutes.
The inauguration process of Prabowo and Gibran began at 10:00 AM local time. The inauguration agenda was attended by Joko Widodo or Jokowi as the seventh President of Indonesia and 35 guest countries.
Present at the inauguration session, Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly Ahmad Muzani congratulated the newly appointed leaders of Indonesia for the next five years.
"On behalf of the leadership and members of the People's Consultative Assembly of Indonesia and the entire Indonesian people, we congratulate Mr. Prabowo Subianto and Mr. Gibran Rakabuming – Raka," Said Muzani In The Session.
