Irsyan Hasyim, Jakarta – Extreme weather damaged many buildings in Magetan Regency, East Java, on Wednesday evening, September 25, 2024.
The Head of Disaster Data, Information, and Communication at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Abdul Muhari, said as many as 86 households in Karangrejo and Manisrejo Villages were affected by the heavy rainfall and strong winds.
The agency also reported that the heavy rainfall caused light damage to an educational facility, two medical facilities, and a shopping unit.
"As many as 86 houses were reportedly damaged, as well as two public facilities," Muhari said in a written statement on Friday, September 27.
According to Muhari, a recent update on the situation showed the buildings are currently being repaired. The situation on the ground is conducive, with the Magetan Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) gathering data about the extent of the damage caused by the extreme weather.
Joint personnel from the BPBD, military and police, the Public Works and Housing Department, the Social Affairs Department, and volunteers were seen clearing up the branches and trees falling on top of the houses.
"PLN (electricity company) and district officials also help accelerate the recovery of the situation on the ground," he said.
BNPB advises Indonesian citizens to be vigilant of extreme weather, especially during the transition season from the dry to the rainy season. "Pay attention to the information released by related institutions and immediately report emergency and damages to authorities," Muhari concluded.
