Juan Ardya Guardiola, Jakarta – The General Election Commission (KPU) has approved 1,553 candidate pairs to compete in the upcoming elections for governors, regents, and mayors across Indonesia.

Under Indonesian election law, all candidates are required to register alongside their running mates.

The approved candidates include 103 pairs for gubernatorial elections, 1,166 pairs for regent elections, and 284 pairs for mayoral elections.

KPU Commissioner August Mellaz announced on Monday that eight candidate pairs were disqualified earlier for failing to meet administrative requirements.

All qualified candidates will receive their ballot numbers during a drawing on Monday.

The simultaneous elections, set for November 27, will decide 37 governors and more than 500 mayors and regents. Yogyakarta will not hold a gubernatorial election due to its special status as a kingdom, with leadership provided by a sultan.

However, the province in southern Java will hold elections for mayors and regents on the same day.

Jakarta, due to its special status as the national capital, will not elect mayors or regents, but the governorship remains an elected position.
