Han Revanda Putra, Jakarta – The Indonesian government's Illegal Import Task Force found 2,929 rolls of illegally imported prayer mats and carpets worth approximately Rp10 billion. Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, confirmed the finding in an expose on Monday, September 23, 2024.

The Illegal Import Task Force was formed through the Ministerial Decree No. 932 of 2024. The task force comprises the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Finance especially the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the National Police, the Attorney's General Office, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and business associations.

"We are a team, with one goal. We want the economy to thrive, for the people to have protected products, and for the enterpreneurs to develop their businesses," he said.

According to the minister, the method of illegally exporting carpet and prayer mats includes falsifying the data on permit documents. Instead of writing carpets and prayer mats, the exporters categorized the goods as raw materials.

At present, he said, the Task Force strives to oversee illegal imports in Indonesia so trade runs in an orderly manner and the domestic industry is maintained.

"We ask businesses in various sectors to comply with applicable regulations in Indonesia, "said the minister.

The Illegal Import Task Force would proceed to destroy the seized illegally imported carpets and prayer mats. Zulkifli Hasan also said the task force will reveal its most recent findings in due time.
