Yustinus Paat, Jakarta – Despite representing rival parties in the 2024 Presidential Election, Pramono Anung pledged his commitment to implementing the policies of the newly elected Prabowo Subianto administration in Jakarta, should he and his running mate, Rano Karno, secure victory in the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election.
"There is no room for debate on this matter, as it is the provincial government's duty to execute the decisions made by the central government," Pramono said during a media briefing in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Friday.
He highlighted that in Indonesia's democratic system, local elections for mayors, regents, and governors are closely aligned with the presidential election. Therefore, elected local leaders must support the president and vice president's policies.
"Regardless of who is elected, whether Mr. Prabowo and Mr. Gibran or anyone else, local governments at the provincial, city, and district levels across Indonesia must fully support the administration," the former cabinet secretary added.
Pramono also stressed that this would not pose a challenge, as both he and Rano Karno have strong relationships with Prabowo and Gibran, despite any differences in political choices during the presidential or regional elections.
"I am confident that I have excellent communication with Mr. Prabowo and Mr. Gibran, and I believe Bang Doel (Rano's nickname) does as well," Pramono explained.
He further clarified that they would carefully distinguish between the responsibilities of the central and provincial governments.
"As long as it falls within the province's authority, the provincial government will make the decisions in accordance with the law. There is a clear hierarchy and division of responsibilities," Pramono concluded.
