Bps.Go.Id, Antara, Jakarta – Indonesia saw a concerning rise in rape cases throughout 2022. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released a report titled "Criminal Statistics 2023", showing 1,443 reported cases of immoral crimes of rape, which increased by 23.9% compared to the previous year's 1,164 cases.
The data was compiled by BPS from reports submitted by Regional Police (Polda) offices across the country's 34 provinces. Among these provinces, Aceh holds the unfortunate distinction of having the highest number of reported rape cases in 2022, with 135 incidents. This represents a significant increase of 65 cases from the previous year at 70 cases.
