Jakarta – Indonesia's international trade balance recorded a surplus of $2.39 billion in June 2024, marking the 50th consecutive month of positive trade balance, according to government data released on Monday.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the latest monthly surplus narrowed by $540 million compared to the previous month and by $1.06 billion from June 2023.

Indonesia's total exports stood at $20.84 billion in June, down 6.65 percent compared to May but up 1.17 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, imports totaled $18.45 billion in June, down 4.89 percent from May but up 7.58 percent from June 2023.

"Indonesia has recorded a surplus in its trade balance for 50 months in a row since May 2020," BPS Acting Chairwoman Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti told a news conference in Jakarta.

During the first half of 2024, Indonesia's exports stood at $125.09 billion, representing a 2.76 percent decline from the same period last year. Imports totaled $109.64 billion in the six-month period, up 0.84 percent from the same period last year.

The trade surplus totaled $15.45 billion in the first half of 2024, representing a decline of $4.46 billion compared with the same period last year.
