Jakarta – The state employment security agency BPJS Ketenagakerjaan recently announced its audited financial and program report for the financial year 2023.
The report, which was audited by the accountant firm Amir Abadi Jusuf, Aryanto, Mawar & Rekan, gave BPJS Ketenagakerjaan an audit grade of "reasonable without modifications", commonly referred to by its acronym WTP. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's supervisory board chairman said that their financial report had complied with the existing regulations.
"We, the supervisory board, are glad to encourage performance by giving recommendations and suggestions to the board and management to make innovations. So the company can improve their services, optimize investment yields, and boost membership coverage," Muhammad Zuhri was quoted as saying in a recent press statement.
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's president director Anggoro Eko Cahyo said that the publication of the report was the company's efforts to improve transparency and accountability.
"Publication of this report is part of responsibility and disclosure of information to the public, as well as proof of clean, accountable fund management and in accordance with applicable financial accounting standards," Anggoro said.
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's members had grown in 2023. Noncivil servants, vulnerable workers, and workers in villages make up the largest part of the membership. If accumulated, the number reaches 14.5 million participants, up by 44.96 percent compared to 2022. Active BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants reached 41.56 million people by the end of 2023.
Funds managed by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan also increased by 13.48 percent, reaching Rp 712.3 trillion as of Dec. 31, 2023. Anggoro said the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan had been managing the funds in a prudent manner. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan also recently earned recognition, including the "Highly Commended Top Investment House" and "The Most Astute Investors in Asian Local Currency Bonds 2023" from The Assets.
Throughout 2023, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan already paid 4.58 million claims worth Rp 53.51 trillion, including scholarship benefits worth Rp 346 billion for 91,050 cases. Anggoro attributed the growth in claims to the unemployment benefits JKP which had entered its second year of its implementation. Pension and scholarships also drove these claim payments.
"Scholarship allows the younger generation to pursue education after their parents leave. This way, we can nurture top human capital as Indonesia walks towards a golden era in 2045," Anggoro said.
To improve services, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has rolled out new designs at all its branches, while optimizing the Jamsostek mobile app (JMO). The agency is partnering with 7,104 work accident service centers. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has also opened up 64 special channels dedicated to serving Indonesian migrant workers in the country. They also have 3 representation channels in Taiwan, South Korea and Brunei Darussalam.
The company also has 175 contact centers aimed at enabling people to get information about BPJS Ketenagakerjaan easily.
"Hopefully, all these various achievements and accomplishments can become valuable capital for us to accelerate efforts to expand the protection coverage of the employment social security program," Anggoro said.
"So we can achieve prosperous worker protection and universal coverage soon."
