M. Iqbal, Jakarta – In a video posted on social media, a Catholic student was allegedly abused by a suspected leader of a neighborhood association (RT). The video said that the alleged incident occurred in the area of Babakan Village, Setu District, South Tangerang City.
In the video posted by @katolikG on X on Monday morning, May 6, a group of people believed to be local residents could be seen arguing with the victim.
The account also notes that May is a time when Catholics gather to pray together. According to the post, the incident took place on Sunday evening, May 5. In fact, the altercation involved people suspected of carrying sharp weapons.
"Last night, Catholic students from Pamulang University gathered at a house in Victor Serpong and prayed the rosary, but they were attacked by the RT and local residents who brought [sharp weapons] to dissipate and attack the students who were praying. Fortunately, there were no casualties. We hope that the police will immediately investigate and solve such cases, don't take away our duty to forgive," the report said.
The victim is known to have filed a report at the Police Resort South Tangerang, report number TBL/B/1046/V/2024/SPKT/POLRES TANGERANG SELATAN/POLDA METRO JAYA.
ACCR, the victim, confirmed the incident of abuse he had experienced. "Yes, it was me," he replied just before leaving for an exam at the university.
