Antara, Jakarta – Papua Police Chief Ins. Gen. Mathius Fakhiri stated the investigators were examining the two students arrested during the gunfire between the authorities and the armed criminal group (KKB). The students were suspected of being the perpetrators of the shooting of the Wings Air plane at Nop Goliat Dekai Airport.
The authorities are investigating if the students were involved and are members of KKB. "Let's wait for the result," said Mathius Fakhiri in Jayapura on Friday, Feb. 23.
According to Fakhiri, based on the report they received, the two are students. But if later the authorities found that the suspects were indeed involved in the movement, the legal process will continue.
Members of Yahukimo Police Resort are still developing the investigation to reveal how far the involvement of the two students in the incident.
"Students or anyone involved with the group (KKB) will be processed according to the prevailing law," said Fakhiri.
Chief of Kapendam XVII/Cenderawasih, Lt. Col. Chandra Kurniawan reported that one died and two were arrested during gunfire between Satgas Yonif 7 Marinir with the criminal group in the Brasa river on Thursday, Feb. 22.
The gunfight broke down after they received a report of a group of people bringing firearms and there was gunfire.
"The officers also seized 74 rounds of ammunition in various sizes and other evidence which has now been handed over to the police for further process," said Chandra Kurniawan.
The arrested students are MH and GB, or GE, and the identity of the death is still unknown.
