Antara, Jakarta – Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for Malaysia Hermono responded to the allegation of intelligence involvement during the 2024 general elections in Kuala Lumpur.
"Even if outside parties try to intervene, it's on the overseas election committee, do they want to be intervened?" said Hermono on Monday in Kuala Lumpur as quoted by Antara.
Earlier, a 1 minute 9 seconds video circulated on the internet, mentioning intelligence intervention regarding overseas final voter list in Kuala Lumpur. Hermono stressed that the final voter list is based on the plenary meeting of the Kuala Lumpur overseas election committee.
The plenary meeting also involved representatives of political parties, the General Elections Commission, and the overseas election supervisory agency of Kuala Lumpur.
"Then how would they intervene?" Hermono said while emphasizing that the overseas election committee must maintain its integrity even if outside parties try to intervene. "They [are bound] to the integrity pact (Pakta Integritas)."
Hermono said he has reminded the overseas election committee that they will work under immense pressure, especially with the number of voters in Malaysia.
Concerning Indonesia's mission neutrality during the general elections, Hermono said his embassy has the duty to ensure the committee and supervisory agency work without hindrance.
The embassy, he went on, provided the place, and supporting data, and coordinated with local authorities, the Malaysian foreign ministry, and the police.
The Indonesian Embassy also routinely invites political parties and civil communities to gather and discuss any issues they may face.
