Muhammad Aulia, Jakarta – In a shocking revelation, more than 50 employees of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) are alleged to have accepted bribes from suspects detained at the commission's facility.

KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata said on Thursday that these concerning findings emerged after an internal investigation team interrogated around 190 individuals.

"We have gathered testimonials and physical evidence, and, generally, they have cooperated and admitted to the wrongdoing," Alexander said during a press conference at the KPK headquarters in Jakarta.

While no specific individuals have been designated as suspects yet, Alexander said that the launch of a criminal investigation is imminent.

"We haven't identified any suspects yet, but, simultaneously, we have enough evidence to press charges, so it's only a matter of time. We have a very strong case here," he added.

The Oversight Body of the KPK had previously exposed widespread illegal surcharges by employees taking advantage of detainees. These corrupt practices reportedly resulted in the collection of at least Rp 4 billion ($257,000) between December 2021 and March 2023. Detainees allegedly paid these illicit sums for access to cellphones or for meal deliveries facilitated by family members.
