Antara, Jakarta – Several neighborhoods in Kebon Pala, Kampung Melayu Sub-district, Jatinegara District, East Jakarta were flooded due to Ciliwung River overflows on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023.
"The water began flooding residential areas on Thursday morning at around 5 a.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Time) at 30-centimeter height to 1.25-meter height," said the Neighborhood Head Sanusi in Jakarta.
The flooding, he said was caused by heavy rain in Bogor and Depok all Wednesday, causing the Ciliwung River to overflow.
According to Sanusi, over 100 houses were affected by the flooding. However, he added that no residents evacuated from their homes during the situation.
The residents of Kebon Pala were used to flooding since the areas were located lower and adjacent to the Ciliwung River. The government's program of Ciliwung River normalization also has not been beneficial to the residents.
"The Ciliwung River Sodetan that was programmed by the government has yet to reduce the flooding in this area," Sanusi reported. He hoped that the program could be implemented soon to avoid more floods in the future.
