Aisyah Amira Wakang, Jakarta – The Coalition for the Clean Air Initiative or Koalisi Ibukota hailed the Supreme Court's decision to reject the cassation filed by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar against the verdict that was issued in the air pollution lawsuit initiated by citizens.

In response, the 32 petitioners stressed that the defendants must promptly comply with the court's ruling. "We firmly demand that the President and the staffers as the defendants cease their use of legal measures to impede their legal responsibilities," Citra Referendum, the Director of Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Jakarta) and the attorney for the coalition, said in a written statement on Friday, November 17, 2023.

One of the petitioners Khalisah also said that the court's ruling was not just a victory for the plaintiff but also for all citizens, particularly vulnerable groups who are struggling to get clean air.

"The government must adhere to legal orders and its constitutional duties," she stressed.

Koalisi Ibukota filed a citizen lawsuit on air pollution on July 4, 2019. In the decision hearing on September 16, 2021, the panel of judges granted part of the lawsuit.

The judge stated that Defendant I (President Jokowi), Defendant II (Minister of Environment and Forestry), Defendant III (Minister of Home Affairs), Defendant IV (Minister of Health), and Defendant V (Governor of Jakarta) had committed unlawful acts.

However, President Jokowi and Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar separately filed a cassation on January 13, 2023, and January 20, 2023, respectively.
