Moh. Khory Alfarizi, Jakarta – PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) responded to trending footage of water leaking from the ceiling of Whoosh's Halim Station during heavy rain on Saturday evening, November 4, 2023.

"The leaked water from the station's ceiling is not inside the Halim Station," KCIC Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa said in a press statement quoted on Monday, Nov. 6.

Other footage displaying water bursting to the stairs, she added, was also not inside the station, but in the outside area of the arrivals lobby on the south side. The water came from drains that failed to withstand the water discharge due to the extremely high-intensity rain.

Despite the incident, Eva confirmed that the service of the country's first high-speed train was not affected as there were still clear areas for passengers to pass through to get to the drop-off and pick-up lobby area. All passenger flows continued to operate normally without any problems. "The operation of the Whoosh high-speed train is also unaffected."

She mentioned that PT KCIC coordinated with the station's construction contractor, PT Wijaya Karya or Wika, to immediately investigate and repair the affected area for the comfort of passengers.

On Sunday, Nov. 5, services at the Halim Station were operating normally, and PT Wika had also started the repair, which was expected to be completed soon.

"KCIC apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the heavy rain around the Halim Station area," Eva said, adding that the station's ceiling was constructed during the dry season, so the water channel test could not be conducted. PT KCIC together with contractors would also inspect other points around the Whoosh stations to anticipate similar incidents.

"PT KCIC and PT Wika have carried out communication and coordination and moved quickly to ensure optimal services and facilities for passengers," Eva concluded.
