Savero Aristia Wienanto, Jakarta – The National Association of University Student Executive Bodies (BEM SI) staged a demonstration entitled Geruduk Istana today, Oct. 20, to criticize the nine-year leadership of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi.

The orator who is a representative of the Indonesian Student Movement of the Open University (GMNI UT) voiced criticism of the President.

"We have been under Jokowi for nine years. He has been oppressing the people. Bring down the Jokowi regime that has caused misery to the people," the orator said on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta.

Based on Tempo's monitoring, the crowd began to gather at the Arjuna Wiwaha Statue (Horse Statue) at 3:30 p.m. local time. They gradually arrived from the east side of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.

Demonstrators who came from various regions also took turns delivering speeches. Apart from criticizing Jokowi, the masses also protested against the closure of Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, which prevented them from moving towards the State Palace.

In addition to the masses of BEM SI, the student movement called the Indonesian Student Movement (GMNI) also took part in the demonstration.
