Muhammad Sidik Permana, Jakarta – The Bogor City Government announced a fine of Rp10 million for residents who burn trash in a bid to prevent air pollution in the city. The penalties are stipulated in the Regional Regulation (Perda) on Public Order.

"Heads of subdistrict and village are suggested to take action in accordance with the regional regulation if there is trash burning in their respective areas," Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto said in Balikota Bogor, on Friday, August 25, 2023.

Bima said the city administration would enforce the regional regulation on public order and the regional regulation on the environment, which stipulate penalties of imprisonment up to a fine of up to Rp10 million.

He said there were reports of residents burning tires to obtain the wire. Additionally, the city government would also oversee the activities of a number of infrastructure development projects in the city that have the potential to generate dust particles.

"We will also monitor construction projects, one of which is the construction of the Otista bridge and other projects that generate dust particles. [We will suggest that] the areas be sprayed with water so that they don't cause pollution," Bima stressed.

Bogor Deputy Mayor Dedie A Rachim, meanwhile, appealed to the public, especially students, to use public transportation. "I hope schools will increase the number of shuttle services to reduce the use of private vehicles to drop off and pick up students," he said.

Dedie said the Bogor city government was making various efforts to maintain air quality, one of which was to instruct the apparatus in tandem with the Bogor City Fire Agency to spray areas with high dust pollution potential.
