Moh. Khory Alfarizi, Jakarta – The LRT Jabodebek Division of the Indonesian Railways Company, Mochamad Purnomosidi, explained the calculation of the return on investment of the LRT Jabodebek project.

"LRT Jabodebek is projected to reach a return on investment after operating for 13 years. After that, there is no need for subsidy," he said when called on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

The calculation was based on the assumption of the Rp5,000 baseline fare and Rp25,000 maximum fare as proposed by LRT Jabodebek. The management also targeted 200,000 passengers daily onward August 18, 2023, and expected to surpass 500,000 passengers daily after 5-10 years.

The project was developed with Rp29.9 trillion in investment, and since the operation experienced a delay, it distended Rp2.6 trillion and reached Rp32.5 trillion in total. The project is now commencing a trial run on July 12, 2023, and will be finished on August 15, 2023. Following the trial run, LRT Jabodebek will be inaugurated by President Jokowi which will mark the start of its commercial operation.

In addition to ticket fares, Purnomosidi explained that LRT Jabodebek's income also comes from advertisements located in the stations, naming rights, tenants, and ATM centers. "It's also known as non-farebox income," he said.

The Director of the Indonesian Railways Company Didiek Hartyanto added that LRT Jabodebek plans to operate 560 trips after all the trials are complete. "The headway for work-days is about 3-6 minutes," Didiek said.

Didiek explained that to increase customer satisfaction, Indonesian Railways Company will continue to collaborate with other parties in order to deliver an integrated network of intermodal first-mile and last-mile transportation. "Thus, the passengers will be able to continue their trips easily," he said.

However, he emphasized that security and safety is the company's priority. Indonesian Railways Company has collaborated with various governmental institutions such as the Indonesian Armed Forces, the National Police, National Search and Rescue Agency, the National Firefighters Agency, BNPT, and several hospitals located along the train routes.

Didiek hoped that people, especially from Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi, will choose to commute with LRT Jabodebek. To accommodate this, LRT has provided three routes with 18 stops available. The first route is from Cawang Station to Harjamukti Station which covered 14.89 kilometers. The second one is from Cawang Station to Dukuh Atas Station which covered 11.05 kilometers. And lastly, from Cawang Station to Jatimulya Station in East Bekasi which covered 18.49 kilometers.

"Every LRT Jabodebek train set is consisting of 6 connected trains operated without an engineer automatically using Communication-Based Train Control with Grade of Automation level 33," said Didiek.

He also hoped that this LRT Jabodebek project will become a milestone in the history of urban development in Indonesia. "And to support sustainable transportation and to realize train as the first choice of transportation especially for the Jabodebek area," he added.
