M Rosseno Aji, Jakarta – The Indonesian National Police criminal investigation unit (Bareskrim) in an official statement on Friday announced that it is starting to look into the report suspecting an alleged leak of a verdict issued by the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding a closed-list election, which incriminates Denny Indrayana, former deputy minister of Law and Human Rights.

"As of now, it is being looked into by the Bareksrim investigators," said national police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Sandi Nugroho in a statemnet on June 2.

The report was submitted by an individual identified as AWW on May 31 and subjected Denny Indrayana's Twitter and Instagram accounts to alleged hate speech, hoax distribution, slander against authorities, and leaking confidential state documents.

Police say there are two witnesses in the police report and have obtained a piece of evidence in the form of a 16GB flash disk.

The main issue in this police report is Denny's social media post regarding the Constitutional Court verdict, which Denny claimed to have obtained. He further elaborated that there will be six judges that agree with the closed-list electoral system, which some have protested against as it would only enable voters to vote for political parties instead of the actual individual or candidate.

Denny, however, strongly believed that he had not leaked official state documents as he mentioned the Constitutional Court in his social media post and was adamant that he obtained the information regarding the verdict from sources outside of the MK ecosystem.
