Fajar Pebrianto, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo expressed disagreement that Gerindra Party's chief patron Prabowo Subianto be paired with his son Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 presidential election.
He assessed that Gibran could not run in the upcoming election given his age and years of service in Solo which has only been two years. "Just think logically," Jokowi said casually in a press statement at Sarinah Mall, Jakarta, on Thursday, May 4.
Prabowo is still optimistic about running as a presidential candidate for 2024. The discourse on pairing Prabowo and Gibran, however, is actually not that conspicuous. It is rather the pair of Prabowo and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.
Nevertheless, Gibran and Prabowo have visited each other. Gibran visited Pabowo at the latter's residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Sunday, June 18, 2022.
On January 24, 2023, Prabowo visited Gibran at Loji Gandrung, Solo. During the meeting, he voiced support for Gibran in running for the 2024 gubernatorial election.
"I think he (Gibran Rakabuming) is just right. I support him, I think I've always supported him," Prabowo said, adding that President Jokowi's son could successfully lead Jakarta and Central Java.
