Road accidents surge in 2022, says W. Java Jasa Raharja

Anwar Siswadi (Contributor), Jakarta – The number of road accident victims in the West Java region continues to increase annually. In 2022, the victims who state-owned insurance firm Jasa Raharja compensated amounted to 13,454 people.

This was mentioned by the company's West Java chairperson Dodi Apriansyah in a public lecture at the Bandung Institute of Technology on Wednesday, who asserted that it is a 19 percent increase compared to the previous year.

"Throughout 2022 we issued compensation that amounts to a total of Rp350 billion," he said. "Last year alone the compensation disbursed bumped up nearly 18-19 percent compared to the previous year."

In terms of gender, most of the road incident victims were male drivers (73.89 percent) compared to female drivers which amount to 26.06 percent.

Classified regarding the driver's profession, the most involved in accidents are school students and college students which amount to 24.81 percent and is followed by business people (24.74 percent), private sector employees (20 percent), and lastly are housewives 12 percent.

Broken down to the age demographic, most road accidents in 2022 were dominated by the 25-54-year-old age group which is followed by the 10-24-year-old group with 32.60 percent.

The accidents that were compensated for by Jasa Raharja in 2022 exceeded the previous three years by 2,000 on average. Dodi insisted that deaths caused by road accidents rank third nationally and globally.
