Antara, Jakarta – Heavy rain showering Jakarta since the early hours of today led to flooding in four neighborhood units or RT up to a height of 30 centimeters, the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency or BPBD has reported.
"We are trying to pump out the floodwater," said the Jakarta BPBD Chief Executive Isnawa Adji in Jakarta, on Friday, February 24.
As of 06:00 local time, two RTs in Cakung Timur of East Jakarta were inundated by 20-centimeter-deep floodwater, one RT in Marunda of North Jakarta was inundated by 25-cm-deep floodwater, and one RT in Tegal Alur of West Jakarta was inundated by 30 cm of the flood.
The high-intensity rain continued to drench the capital until Friday morning.
Apart from residential areas, inundation also occurred on six city roads, namely Jalan Sungai Begog in Semper Timur of North Jakarta reaching 20 centimeters, Jalan Madya Kebantenan Semper Timur reaching 15 centimeters, Jalan Kramat Raya in Koja of North Jakarta reaching 10 centimeters, Jalan Raya Cilincing in Kali Baru reaching 10 centimeters, Jalan Basoka Raya in West Jakarta reaching 15 centimeters, and Jalan Lingkungan III in Kalideres reaching 20 centimeters.
"Since last night, Jakarta BPBD officers have been mobilized to the field, to flood-prone areas, including main roads," said Isnawa.
Jakarta BPBD synergized with the Water Resources Agency (SDA), the Fire Management and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat), and other relevant agencies to mitigate the flooding. The agency also readied hundreds of stationary pumps and mobile pumps to drain the inundation.
"In an emergency that requires help, immediately reach the Jakarta Siaga call center 112," said Isnawa.
