Jakarta (Antara) – At least 600 joint personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) were deployed to secure four demonstrations in Central Jakarta today, December 12, 2022.
"Today, we deployed 7 SSK or 600 personnel to secure the demonstrations," said Central Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comr. Komarudinin Jakarta, Monday, December 12, 2022, as quoted from Antara.
He explained that the four rallies would take place in different locations. "The mass assembly points are at the Horse Statue, Jakarta City Hall, DPR, and BRI," he said.
Demonstrators were asked to voice their opinions in an orderly manner and avoid anarchistic behaviors. "In accordance with applicable laws."
Kamarudin also asked them to adapt to the places that have been prepared, "so that public activities are not disrupted and the demonstrations continue. We share places and roads."
Even though the right to express opinions is protected by law, the protesters must still pay attention to the interests of other communities. Komarudin hoped that there will be no road closures due to today's demonstration.
"Road users are advised to avoid the roads around Monas. Jalan Merdeka Barat is closed. Traffic on Jalan Hayam Wuruk heading to Monas will be diverted to pass Jalan Ir H Juanda," Komarudin added.
The Central Jakarta Police Chief also expected protesters not to be easily provoked. "In anticipation of groups trying to disrupt the action, coordination and supervision are conducted so if there is anyone inciting provocation, he will immediately be removed from the group or report him to security officers," Kamarudin said.
