Antara, Jakarta – Student protesters from University of Indonesia's Student Executive Board (BEM UI) and other communities involved in the #IndonesiaSadar (Indonesia Aware) protest dispersed after rain hit the Dukuh Atas area in Central Jakarta.
The protesters dispersed at around 7:15 p.m. local time. Students and civil groups were protesting in front of the UOB building and began leaving the location after the rainfall.
Meanwhile, officers were stationed around the location and monitored the protesters as they dispersed to ensure the situation remained peaceful.
Despite this, crowds remained in several locations.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Pol. Reynold E.P. Hutagalung, urged protesters to disperse in an orderly manner using a loudspeaker.
He also expressed his appreciation for the peaceful dispersal process.
With the protest over, officers continued to monitor traffic conditions around the location to anticipate any developments after the protesters left the area.
Until this article was published, traffic was still closed in both directions, both from Semanggi towards HI Roundabout and vice versa.
Earlier in the day, BEM UI students were joined by other students from various universities, student movement organizations, and civil society groups to protest various national issues during the annual Youth Pledge Day, which falls every October 28.
By 02:30 p.m. local time, protesters began arriving near the Thamrin Nine building to march into the HI Roundabout area. However, police set up barricades to stop them from moving toward the HI Roundabout.
