Defara Dhanya Paramitha, Jakarta – At least 2,000 workers who are members of eleven trade unions along with farmers' unions planned to stage a demonstration at the Jakarta State Palace on Saturday, December 10, 2022, which coincides with International Human Rights Day.

"The Labor Party sees Human Rights Day as a momentum to keep our memory regarding various existing cases of human rights violations in Indonesia which to this day have not been clarified or resolved," said the chairman of the Labor Party's election-winning body (Bapilu) Ilhamsyah in a virtual press conference on Friday, December 9, 2022.

The protest will take place at 09:00 AM Jakarta time and be followed by a long march in front of the State Palace.

Ilhamsyah hoped that the demonstration will proceed peacefully. The workers want their voices to be heard by President Jokowi so that the head of state fulfills the commitment to resolve human rights cases during his remaining term.

During the demonstration, the workers will raise nine issues as follows:

  • Workers reject the Job Creation Law,
  • Labor demands agrarian reform and food sovereignty,

  • Workers voice corruption eradication, and
  • Workers demand that the government thoroughly investigate all cases of human rights violations recommended by the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).
