Antara, Jakarta – The Jakarta Environmental Agency planned to install 14 more units of air quality sensors across the capital city in order to increase the validity of air quality in the region.

"This is intended to ensure that the data produced by the sensor is of high quality," said the agency head Asep Kuswanto as quoted from Antara on Monday, October 3, 2022.

Data generated by the sensor will be validated with one of the existing air quality measuring devices. Jakarta has already had six air quality measuring devices that cost more than Rp1 billion per unit.

Meanwhile, the agency claimed that the price of the new sensor is more affordable at around US$300 or Rp4.3 million, with an assumed exchange rate of Rp14,500 per US Dollar.

In tandem with Jakarta Trisakti University, the 14 sensors will be placed in one of the air quality measuring devices for one month for data validation. If it succeeds and the data can be confirmed, the sensors will be installed in several points to explore areas with poor air quality.

Data from the sensors will also be used to evaluate the traffic policies that are being implemented, including the odd-even system.

Based on the Jakarta Low Emissions website, the city's air quality was at a moderate level as of 20:00 p.m Monday, October 3, 2022. The Jakarta Environment Agency noted that the good air quality index is at a score of 0-50, medium AQI at 51-100, unhealthy AQI at 101-199, very unhealthy AQI at 200-299, and hazardous AQI at 300-500.
