Antara, Jakarta – The Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Bintang Puspayoga on Sunday called for parents to communicate with their children and better monitor their child's growth following a tragic case where a 13-year-old girl became a victim of sexual assault committed by preteens – some of the perpetrators were 11 years of age – in North Jakarta.
"Come on parents, communicate frequently with your children. Don't let them become victims and perpetrators of [sexual assault]," said the Minister as she paid a visit to the female victim in Cilincing, North Jakarta, on September 25, Antaranews reported.
The Minister then coordinated efforts with the Jakarta Head of the Child Protection and Population Control Empowerment Service Tuty Kusumawati upon educating parents residing in North Jakarta's Rawa Malang. Especially in terms of children consuming online content that is dangerous for mental health.
"The perpetrators are categorized under children facing the law (ABH) that has to be educated for every action they committed and the consequences they face," she added.
The North Jakarta Police issued a statement regarding four young preteens who have allegedly committed sexual assault against a 13-year-old teen girl at the Rawa Malang Urban Forest. Police say these preteens are no longer attending school. Police are following up on the case under the Juvenile Criminal Justice System.
